“Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.”
- William Wordsworth, from Lines Written in Early Spring (1798)
In the Company of Flowers
In this new collection of still life and hedgerow paintings, I’ve turned once again to the quiet beauty of flower. Not just as decorative subjects, but as symbols of presence, persistence, and small defiance.
These pieces were made slowly, in snatched moments between the chaos of young children and the rare silence of early mornings. Many of the works have never been shared before. Unseen glimpses of colour, movement and growth, painted in a rhythm that mirrors the unpredictable tempo of my days.
The flowers here are not frozen or perfect. They bend, scatter, lean. The hedgerows tangle and reach. I’m interested in capturing the ‘life’ in still life. The sense that even when nothing is happening, everything is.
In the Company of Flowers opens with a 24-hour private preview for mailing list subscribers before becoming available to all.
